Woon eens in het interieur van een bekende architect

Live in the interior of a famous architect

Have you always wanted to know what kind of interiors famous architects live in themselves? We researched it for you! Be inspired by real architect homes and our 'shop the look' interior inspiration!

Warmly eclectic like Alvar Aalto

Aalto is a Finnish architect who became fascinated by the Mediterranean region, culture and philosophy of life during his honeymoon in Italy. His most famous works are probably the Aalto vase (look it up!) and his sketches for what has now become Ikea's most famous stool: the Frosta.

Warmth, humanity and 'Gesamtkunstwerk' (an interplay of arts) perfectly summarize Aalto's work. He allowed spaces to flow into each other and was ingenious in using different materials together.

Aalto's style at Furnified

To put Aalto's stamp on your interior, we look for materials and designs that clash with each other at first sight, but actually fit together quite well – not to say: exquisitely.

Shop the look: the seat

Classy and sassy, that's this one night blue armchair in velvet (€599). The combination of the material with the gold finish makes this piece of furniture a real statement piece in your interior and immediately a solid base to build on.

Shop the look: the sideboard

The rattan version of our Oskar sideboard (€ 999) gives your interior an instant bohemian touch, a nod to those long-gone times on the Mediterranean Sea. A warm vibe and the perfect mix 'n match with the sofa from before.

Shop the look: accessories

We finish with this beautiful  teak mirror . The dark color of the frame around the mirror and its straight shape add a robust look to the whole. A tip: do not hang the mirror, but leave it against a wall. In this way, the furniture in the room remains connected to each other.

Light and airy like John Pawson

The English architect and designer John Pawson is a simple boy. At least when it comes to his designs. Born in 1949, he is still at the top of the world today, with names such as Martha Stewart and Calvin Klein in his client base.

Pawson likes sober elements and takes inspiration from monastic life, opting for simple colors and apparently simple designs.

Pawson's style at Furnified

We bring Pawson into our home by opting for tranquility with every piece of furniture. Soft colours, simple designs and few frills, we fully recognize that in our collection. Off we go!

Shop the look: dresser

If less is more In addition to the sofa, we go for a beautiful, elegant but also practical sideboard: the Oscar in oak (€879). Also useful as a TV cabinet, because thanks to the 3 storage spaces, adjustable shelves and cleverly designed cable openings, you can easily put away everything you don't want to show - but do need for a nice evening watching TV.

The light wood fits wonderfully with the sofa and with a lamp on the cupboard or a sketch above it you give your John Pawson lookalike interior its own panache.

Shop the look: the chair

We continue the warmth and tranquility in the dining room. Place a Charles (€ 249) around your dining room table and your evening can not go wrong. The rattan weave gives the chair the twist it needs and the fabric seat fits nicely with the sofa.

Mid-century chic like Philip Johnson

With Philip Johnson we return to the 1940s. While studying art history, Johnson traveled to Europe and fell in love with the architectural style. Back in America, he gathered a group of like-minded people and architects that he looked up to (such as Mies van der Rohe). Influenced by their work, he helped determine the definition of postmodernist architecture and came up with the 'International Style'.

Johnson's style at Furnified

Mid-century chic can easily be summarized as flat roofs, clean lines and lots of glass. Inside, wood is prominent.

Shop the look: dresser

When you say wood, we think of our dresser Oscar (€ 949), this time in teak. The two sliding doors keep the look sleek and the low construction of the furniture gives the rest of your room enough breath.

Shop the look: sofa

We stay in the wood tones and opt for Sofa Stan (€ 1999) as an eye-catcher. The cognac fits perfectly with the sideboard and gives enough space for your bubble or visit, or just yourself.

Shop the look: the coffee table

In addition to wood, glass is a material characteristic of mid-century chic. Enter: coffee table Kate (€399). This round model with a glass top and a marble top at the bottom provides the ideal finish to this room. Another coffee table book or a vase of dried flowers and Johnson would be happy!
