How to maintain wooden furniture
Wooden furniture is very beautiful in any interior, but this natural product does need attention from time to time. Proper care will ensure durability and a long life for your wooden furniture. Read here how to care for your furniture properly and thoroughly.
Prevention is better than cure
You can improve the maintaining of wooden furniture intensively by reducing exposure to harmful factors. Never place wooden furniture in direct sunlight as it will discolour. For example, if you have accessories on a dresser in the sun, they will turn into darker spots because the rest of the cabinet will be exposed to more light. A good level of humidity can also do wonders, because if the environment is too dry, the wood will start to deform and warp. An average humidity of 50% to 60% is standard in homes and recommended. Always use coasters under wet glasses and hot pots and pans.
Taking care every day
The dining table is one of the central places in your home; it is where people eat, spill, laugh and ... live. This piece of furniture is the perfect example of an item that needs daily care to stay beautiful. Crumbs and dust can be removed with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Do you spill liquids? Dab it off quickly so it doesn't soak into the wood and leave marks. With a little soapy water you can quickly restore your table to its original state.
Dust-free
It is important to keep your wooden furniture dust-free by wiping it down with a microfibre cloth every now and then.
Away with stains
If you have stains on your furniture, you can use a maintenance wax. This product can be applied to both treated and untreated furniture. If you have a piece of furniture that is less resistant to stains, you can opt for an oil. This maintenance product refreshes the wood without having to sand everything. Thanks to the oil, the wood will absorb less fluids and the chance of stains and rings is significantly smaller. This is because the product penetrates into the wood, saturating it. A big advantage is that it will not affect the natural feel, without adding shine. Apply a thin layer and remove excess oil with a cotton cloth.
Complete protection
Varnish can protect any wooden furniture from heat and moisture, but it takes away some of the natural allure due to its shiny effect. You can also choose a matte varnish, or an opaque coloured varnish. Varnished furniture is very easy to clean with a dry or slightly damp cloth.
