How do you maintain your microskin table?

Our new sculptural tables are made of microskin. This is a natural material, composed of minerals, lime and micro-mortar. In addition to looking very aesthetically pleasing, microskin has many other advantages. Read with me!

Robust, elegant and similar to natural stone: Microskin has it all! Anyone who is a fan of the hip concrete look and wants to integrate it into his home will soon come across this special material. Mortex is a decorative plaster based on cement and lime. It initially consists of the following two main ingredients: dry Mortex granules and mixing liquid. Thirdly, color powder is added. Mortex is pigmented by hand and many shades are possible, from modern tones to more classic colours. A light color has been chosen for Furnified's Mortex tables, with little drawing (the darker, the more shades) to achieve a calm appearance.

Microskin: one of a kind resultaat

Microskin is used to cover floors, walls, ceilings, but also furniture. By applying various techniques, an object covered with Mortex gets more structure. For example, you can apply decorative elements, opt for matt or glossy or opt for a wood or sand look. This way you get a one of a kind result. Furnifed chose the series of sculptural, organic tables for microskin, because it has such a soft texture and natural appearance. In addition, we realize all too well that everyone in the 21st century has a busy life. In addition to beautiful and high-quality, we also wanted to create a table that is practical and easy to maintain. And preferably lasts as long as possible, both in look and in material. All these requirements came together in Microskin.

Maintenance-friendly concrete look

Micoskin has many advantages. With its eye-catching concrete look, it gives your interior a fresh and special look. If you like statement items and don't shy away from furniture with character, then the Mortex table is ideal. In addition, as mentioned, Microskin is very easy to maintain. The material is completely waterproof thanks to its seamless finish. Did a glass of water or cup of tea fall over? So don't panic. We do recommend that you wipe the table quickly with a soft cloth and a mild detergent to prevent staining. Just to be sure!

Mortex vs. waxed concrete

If you would like to incorporate the fashionable concrete look into your interior, you can choose from a large number of possible materials. The differences between Mortex, tadelakt, concrete ciré, microcement and solid concrete are often not clear. Especially Mortex and concrete ciré seem to be very similar in look and feel. One of the differences is that, in contrast to concrete ciré, Mortex is already waterproof with 2 technical layers of 1 mm. Another difference: Mortex does not contain synthetic resin, but mainly consists of lime. The processing and price also differ for these reasons. Mortex is too difficult for the do-it-yourselfer to apply: the product dries quickly, resulting in many shades. You can process concrete ciré much longer and therefore give it a much calmer look. Béton-ciré uses a sealer that you hardly see with a very natural matte appearance. The price of Mortex is also slightly higher than that of concrete ciré. The cost difference is mainly due to the fact that Mortex is more flexible, does not need a finishing layer and has an unprecedented hardness.

Mortex vs. Tadelakt

Tadelakt is also a supporter of Mortex. Tadelakt is made from lime and was originally used by Moroccan Berbers to decorate their bathhouses and walls. The material is applied to the wall, carefully polished and then rubbed with olive oil soap. Tadelakt is, in contrast to Mortex, not waterproof. The soap layer must be applied again and again to make the material water-repellent. However, it is a very natural product and you can go for warmer color variants with Tadelakt. Are you a fan of southern European shades? At Tadelakt you can apply color pigments and thus create a concrete look that surprises with green, red or blue tones.

Mortex vs. Microbeton en Microcement

The concrete look can also be achieved with Microbeton. This thin material is on the pricey side, but remains good for a long time and can take a beating. In addition, just like Mortex, it is wear-resistant, waterproof and stain-resistant. Microcement is also an option. With this you can finish any surface for the modern, elegant concrete look. The thin layer can be applied seamlessly, so that it is resistant to moisture. This makes it very suitable for bathrooms and showers. Most of these materials are built up with a dry mortar that is mixed with a colored (resin) solution. Mortex, as mentioned, is made on a lime basis. Most concrete cirés, microbetons and microcement are based on cement, which is harder. Cement is also alkaline and has antifungal properties.

Artisanal production process

The Microskin tables from Furnified are carefully made. Layer after layer, the tables are built up into a unique and durable art object - in total, a table consists of no less than eight layers. This artisanal and careful manufacturing process, which takes many hours, results in a seamless design and uniqueness. Each piece is one of a kind. The tables thus pay tribute to individuality and character and inspire you to embrace and show your authenticity. Whether your interior is minimalist or rural, eclectic or modern, Scandinavian or mid-century: the Microskin series adds softness and character to every interior style. The tables are both robust and elegant, simple and outspoken: this richness of contrast looks interesting and intriguing, properties that translate into your interior.
